How many of you are experiencing aging as a beautiful and positive experience? Most of us don’t — at least not all the time, even though every bit of our physical journey should be embraced, celebrated, and undertaken with positive expectations.

When we think about aging, we often associate it with the slow deterioration of body and mind. But it needn’t be so: nature has provided us with potent nutritional powerhouses to keep us fit, fabulous, and young throughout our lives, regardless of our physical age.

Meet five excellent superfoods that fight aging masterfully and taste awesome, too!

walnuts

Walnuts

With the highest levels of antioxidant present among nuts, walnuts are one of the best anti-aging foods you can incorporate into your daily diet. However, the benefits don’t end there.

While this unique mixture of antioxidants aids the body in the prevention of diabetes or cancer, fights obesity and slow down cellular aging, walnuts also contain vitamin E, B6, and folic acid. These nutrients offer protection from environmental toxins, boost hemoglobin production, and nourish the skin from the inside out.

Research also shows that the high concentration of omega-3 fatty acids in walnuts helps to fight off Alzheimer’s.

Walnuts are best consumed raw; they are fantastic chopped on your salad, as a quick snack, or you could mix them with some of the following anti-aging ingredients on this list to maximize their benefits!

blueberries

Blueberries

The flavor of blueberries not only matches walnuts perfectly; their nutritional advantages in the field of anti-aging are equally amazing.

They have the ability to decrease inflammation, age-related damage to brain cells, and may even prevent blindness. When it comes to delaying aging, the antioxidants in blueberries are the winner hands down; they can virtually turn the clock around for the skin, restoring its firmness and radiance.

The vitamin K found in blueberries help healthy circulation, which also promotes healthy skin and youthful energy levels.

Just like most plant foods, berries should be eaten raw as well, to harvest all the nutritional benefits of the enzymes found in them. Excellent on top of breakfast cereals, in delicious smoothies, or even as a topping for meat, sprinkled on steak and green leafy vegetables.

dark chocolate

Dark Chocolate

Who wouldn’t like to indulge in this fun, delicious, yet incredibly powerful superfood on a daily basis? You can enjoy dark chocolate guilt-free: it’s rich, luxurious, and healing for body, mind, and soul!

When it comes to antioxidants found in chocolate, the darker color always means higher amounts; try to aim for 70% or more cocoa content to maximize anti-aging benefits, which are abundantly present in this superfood.

High levels of antioxidants support brain function, lower the number of free radicals present, reduce the risk of cancer, and even soothe away depression, by the elimination of stress hormones that affect the whole body so negatively. The presence of flavonol — a powerful phytonutrient — ensures healthy circulation, replenishing the entire body with much-needed nourishment.

There is no wrong way to eat your dark chocolate: consume it as-is, mix it into healthy alternatives of baked goods instead of munching on sugary pastries, or melt it and drizzle it all over your favorite berries and fruits to create an anti-aging power snack!

Dark chocolate also contains a high amount of probiotics — bacteria that primarily line your gut and are responsible for nutrient absorption and supporting your immune system. A diet that’s rich in probiotics is necessary if you’re trying to achieve your ideal weight or rejuvenate your appearance through healthy eating habits.

avocado

Avocado

Year after year, new information emerges about the vast benefits of incorporating avocados into the daily diet: this fruit is not only chock-full of antioxidants but loaded with vitamins and essential healthy fats too.

Monosaturated fats found in avocados aid digestion, speed up metabolism, balance hormones, virtually erase wrinkles and make your hair shiny and lush. Their abundant vitamin E content further enhances your youthful skin and fabulous looks.

Some may not have developed a taste for its rich flavor and texture; however, avocados are extremely versatile and simple to add to vegetable-based meals, smoothies, desserts, and virtually anywhere in the place of butter or eggs, even in baked goods.

While avocados are the most beneficial when consumed raw, eat them regularly in any form to witness the almost miraculous effects on your health and youthful appearance.

red wine

Red Wine

This list couldn’t be complete without a robust and enjoyable antioxidant beverage that complements all the anti-aging superfoods mentioned above.

Indeed, red wine and its resveratrol content, originating from the skin of red grapes, have profound effects on your health and well-being: by increasing your body’s insulin sensitivity, they fight obesity, repair damage caused by free radicals, and restore collagen structures and elasticity to the skin.

It is important to keep in mind, however, that when it comes to red wine, less seems to be more: while you can indulge in other anti-aging foods relatively freely, consumption of wine should be limited to 1-2 glasses a day of no more than 4 oz each. That way you can enjoy the benefits without having to worry about the damaging health effects that appear when alcohol is consumed in larger quantities.
