BroadBand Light by Sciton and IPL Photorejuvenation
Clear Your Skin & Restore Tone
Advanced Photorejuvenation Treatments
The Breslow Center Medical Spa offers BroadBand Light treatments using the Sciton Joule, a cutting-edge device that will leave your skin looking firmer and more even in tone and texture.
What is photorejuvenation?
Everyone has unwanted pigmented lesions. Some are browns, some are reds, and some are mixtures of different pigments. Some we are born with, and some we acquire through aging, sun damage, or skin disorders.
These dermal irregularities may be managed through different topical medications. However, many people find that advanced skin care treatment is the only effective option.
Photorejuvenation is a process that uses light-based therapy to remove several different types of unsightly pigmentary changes. At The Breslow Center, we use the technologically advanced Harmony IPL for photorejuvenation.
With this revolutionary system, imperfections such as erythema of rosacea, superficial telangiectasia, dyschromia, age spots and other discolored signs of photoaging can be gently heated and eliminated, and replaced by newer, younger looking skin.
Our patients prefer our Harmony IPL System because the results are immediate and improve with successive treatments. It more rapidly treats multiple or larger lesions, compared with other skin care technologies. Each treatment is gentle and allows them to continue all routine activities.
Treatments can be done during a lunch hour and no one will notice any sign of treatment, just a gradual improvement in the skin’s appearance!
What is BBL?
BroadBand Light treatments are referred to as BBL, photo facials, or IPL (Intense Pulse Light). These different names all refer to the same type of technology — what changes is the device the treatment is being performed with.
BBL is used to treat the following issues associated with aging, active lifestyles and sun damage:
- Brown spots
- Red spots and areas
- Acne
- Aging skin
- Hyper-pigmentation
- Rosacea
- Couperus and vascular conditions
- Unwanted hair
- Stretch marks
How much does it cost?
The total cost for Harmony IPL treatments may vary depending on the surface to be treated and the number of sessions required.
Small (Cheeks) – $275 per session
Medium (Full Face) – $350 per session
Large (Chest) – $425 per session
How does BBL work?
During a BBL treatment, the technician uses the device’s hand piece to expose the problem area with light energy of a specific wavelength, breaking down brown or red spots, reducing sun damage, and targeting unwanted hair at the base of the follicle.
The light energy is absorbed by the target area’s color, heating the cells and destroying them. As a consequence, enlarged blood vessels and redness caused by rosacea become less visible, while brown spots or hyper-pigmented areas darken and shed from the skin. Unwanted hair grows back less dense, finer, and more sporadically. BBL can also be used to treat acne, reducing flare-ups and killing the bacteria that causes blemishes.
The Sciton Joule BBL treatment is technologically superior to other light-based solutions on the market, making it more effective and virtually painless.
Firstly, it uses a sapphire crystal, whereas other machines use quartz. The sapphire crystal works with cooling sensors that ensure the highest comfort and safety levels by controlling the temperature throughout the treatment.
Furthermore, the Sciton Joule’s highly sophisticated light setup disperses energy more effectively than other machines do. The target area is treated consistently and efficiently, without the unwanted side effects which can be caused by imprecise energy delivery.
Where can this device be used?
Although certain areas and issues are more common, this phenomenal treatment can be performed on any part of the body, and can be customized to answer your specific needs.
Some favored areas include:
- Face
- Décolleté
- Arms
- Underarms
- Hands
- Back
- Legs
- Bikini
- Feet

When should I have this treatment?
Treatments can be performed all year-round. However, clients who spend a lot of time outdoors are advised to avoid sun exposure directly before or after undergoing BBL. We also always recommend that you use a sunscreen that’s SPF 30 or higher, and follow the reapplication directions according to the SPF selected.
In some cases we suggest that the treatment be postponed until the client can take time off from outdoor activities. When you come in for your consultation, your aesthetician will determine what regime is best suited for your concerns, lifestyle, and skin type.
What are the benefits of BBL for aging skin?
One of the advantages of the Sciton Joule is the device’s patented BBL “Forever Young Photo Facial”. Not only does it correct unwanted conditions – it can also turn back the signs of aging. For this treatment, a deeper wavelength is used to heat the skin and stimulate collagen, restoring a healthier, tighter and more youthful appearance and glow. Collagen stimulation is something that other photo facial machines do not provide.
How long does it take?
The treatment itself does not take long at all. Sessions vary from 30-60 minutes, depending on the areas targeted.
Does BBL hurt?
The treatment is noninvasive and quite tolerable, without the discomfort usually associated with laser-based technologies. The sapphire gem tip ensures a stable treatment temperature from start to finish. We can also provide numbing cream to help remove any extra sensitivity.
Everyone’s tolerance to pain is different, and certain situations such as menstrual cycle, stress, and other factors can increase your sensitivity. These factors are taken into account by our aestheticians, who will advise you accordingly.
What should I expect after the treatment?
You may experience some redness that should resolve within a few hours. For some pigmented targets, you will see a darkening of the treated areas, followed by fading and skin flaking at a later stage. Your treated skin will feel smoother, fine lines and pores will be less noticeable, and sunspots or uneven pigmentation will fade. Results depend on your condition, the number of treatments and the area treated. We will provide you with complete information about post treatment care and results.
When will I see results?
Depending on your target and skin type, you should start seeing a glow to your skin within a few days, and full results in a couple of weeks. Some clients will see the brown target come to the surface of the skin and then disappear. Keep in mind that all skins react differently, and that all targets do not respond the same way.
Working with an aesthetician will provide you with an outstanding transformation that does not stop in the treatment room. Adopting a proper skincare regime at home is very important when conditioning the skin before treatments and for maintaining beautiful results.
How many BBL treatments will I need?
You will see improvement after only one session, but the more you do, the more you’ll see. Treatments have a cumulative effect on the skin. When correcting the skin, multiple treatments are recommended – although the number for acne and rosacea may vary, 3 to 5 are generally required for most conditions.
Once the skin is corrected, we recommend that you undergo at least 2 to 4 treatments per year to maintain your results and begin turning back the hands of time! Tests have determined that on average, patients treated with Forever Young BBL for extended periods of time look ten years younger than their actual age.
