Taboo No More.
How the COVID-19 Pandemic has Possibly Pushed More Men to Undergo Aesthetic Treatments and We’re All Here for It.
As we’re looking through our demographics and schedule here at The Breslow Center for Plastic Surgery and Injxcellence Medical Spa, it is undeniable that there has been a refreshing (no pun intended) surge in males patients coming in for aesthetic treatments over the last year. Seeing men in our practice isn’t new. However, the recent uptick has us interested and unequivocally changing the way we practice here.
In an industry that is still dominated by female patients, it’s refreshing to see that men are also showing more interest in looking and feeling their best. It is not just one treatment they’re seeking either; we’re seeing men interested in and undergoing a wide variety of invasive and non-invasive treatments.
So how exactly did the COVID-19 Pandemic of 2020+ possibly cause this spike in men seeking some of the most exclusive aesthetic treatments? Per the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), “board-certified plastic surgeons stopped performing elective surgical procedures for an average of 8.1 weeks due to COVID-19. The society reported a decline in the total number of procedures performed last year.” So, the questions remain, with all that downtime, what could have caused Americans to still spend over $9 billion on plastic surgery in 2020? Furthermore, do we see the trend continuing this year, throughout 2021-2022?
The possible answers:
Zoom. Online dating. And so far, yes.
With so much time being spent at home, working from home, and in virtual meetings throughout the days, patients were and still are spending a large amount of time looking at themselves at rates that have never been seen before. With every facial feature, fine line, and wrinkle under possible scrutiny, combined with the closing gap on males seeking aesthetic treatments, calling a trusted plastic surgeon or aesthetic injector has become the easiest choice to make.
Some of the most in-demand non-invasive treatments men are taking advantage of are: Botox to smooth fine lines and wrinkles, filler to fill deeper lines and creases, or jaw contour for a more chiseled appearance. Coolsculpting for fat reduction has also been extremely popular this year.
It doesn’t exactly stop there either. We have seen more men coming into our Bergen County office for invasive body procedures, as well. Tummy tucks, gynecomastia surgery, and blepharoplasty (upper and/or lower) eyelid surgery are some of our most inquired-about surgeries.
Men have unapologetically found their way into the aesthetic world and it doesn’t look like there will be any turning back. To schedule your consultation with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons, Drs. Gary D. Breslow or Patrick J. Greaney, or to see one of our sought-after injectors about cosmetic injectables, please call our conveniently located Bergen County, NJ office.
