For many, having children is undeniably one of the greatest gifts’ life can offer. It’s an overwhelming experience that leaves you full of love, joy, and completely in awe of what the human body can do! The duality of motherhood is interesting. On one hand it’s the most beautiful time in your life, however, on the other hand, it is common for a mother to not be exactly thrilled with the way pregnancy and breastfeeding have affected their bodies. Pregnancy (specifically multiple pregnancies or pregnancy with multiples) can leave women with loose skin that “hangs” specifically in the abdominal area, or the phenomenon otherwise known as, “The Pooch.” During pregnancy, the abdominal muscles become weakened and can separate as the baby grows and develops within the uterus. The baby (or babies) need room to grow, and they have no problem taking it! The separation of the abdominal muscles is called “Diastasis Recti” and has varying degrees from mild to severe. If the abdominal walls are unable to be rehabilitated naturally, with proper core exercises after birth, surgical intervention is available with an Abdominoplasty, otherwise known as a “tummy tuck.” The tummy tuck is able to repair both the abdominal walls and remove any loose skin which diet and exercise is not able to repair. In addition to diastasis recti, weight gain and loss during pregnancy, as well as breastfeeding, may also leave the breasts affected. From complete of volume loss, ptosis (breast sagginess or drooping), and the feeling that the breasts are much smaller than pre-baby, women can feel defeated with their post-baby bodies. The good news: Mothers don’t have to feel this way.
So What Is A Mommy Makeover?
A Mommy Makeover is combination of surgeries, such as the tummy tuck and breast surgery, which are designed to address the concerns that the mother has all within one surgery. Breast surgery may include an augmentation with silicone or saline breast implants, a breast lift with or without implants, a breast reduction, or a combination of breast surgeries, such as a breast lift and an augmentation which yields beautiful, youthful results! (Where do we sign?) Although mommy makeover surgery typically includes the aforementioned tummy tuck and breast surgery, Drs. Breslow and Greaney are able to come up with a customized treatment plan to address specific concerns and goals which are unique to each patient.
