Foods to eat to reduce celluliteIt is estimated that almost nine out of 10 women have cellulite — an unsightly combination of dimpled or puckered skin and bulging fat pockets that resemble an orange peel. It often appears on the buttocks and thighs, and may seem impossible to get rid of. However, there are ways to minimize cellulite, such as making some dietary modifications.

Eat This …

Salmon and other types of oily fish are great sources of omega-3 fatty acids, which promote smooth, hydrated and healthy skin. Omega-3s also have anti-inflammatory powers.

Kelp has an ingredient called fuxozanthin, which has fat-burning powers. Consuming kelp in its natural form (in a soup or stir-fry) or taking a kelp supplement may prompt a 5 to 10 percent loss of body weight, according to some studies.

Green tea is a well-known beverage amongst those that want to lose weight and improve health. Green tea’s theobromine and caffeine trigger the release of stored fats in the body.

Water is one of the best ways to combat cellulite and detox the body. Nothing flushes out free radicals and dangerous toxins and combats bloating quite like water. Water’s hydrating effect also plumps skin so the areas of cellulite don’t look as lumpy. Aim to drink eight to 10 glasses of water a day.

Asparagus is known to reduce bloating and flush out harmful toxins that lead to cellulite. The green veggie also stimulates blood circulation and minimizes inflammation.

… But Not That

French fries and other foods that are high in salt cause water retention and expand cellulite’s fat pockets.

Butter and other foods that are high in saturated fats cause inflammation and bad skin.

When Diet Does Not Help

Perhaps you already follow a diet full of salmon and greens, drink plenty of water and avoid fatty or salty foods, but still struggle with cellulite. Dr. Breslow and Dr. Farkas suggest Thermi, a cellulite reduction management system, available at their New Jersey plastic surgery practice.

Lumicell is a three-step process. During the first step, a vacuum and infrared light are directed at the treatment area to improve circulation and heat up the tissue. Then, ultrasound therapy boosts the heat in the tissue to increase the production of collagen for firmer skin. Finally, radiofrequency energy helps to trigger the release of the trapped fat pockets that causes the puckering.

For the best results, our doctors recommend 10 to 14 Lumicell treatments. Each treatment takes approximately one hour.
