How MiraDry Works
MiraDry is non-surgical and non-invasive. Patients tolerate treatment exceedingly well, with very few side effects.
First, the underarms are numbed and prepped. The skin is marked to indicate where treatment should be administered. The handpiece is placed directly on the skin and gentle suction brings the skin and sweat glands closer to the surface of the handpiece. The handpiece emits short pulses of energy that target and destroy the sweat and odor glands. Soothing cooling is simultaneously applied to protect the skin and prevent discomfort.
Treatment is performed at the Breslow Center’s Paramus office and takes about an hour. No downtime is necessary; most patients return to work almost immediately and resume exercise within one week. Sweating is noticeably reduced within a few weeks.
Some patients see results in one treatment. Others may need an additional treatment, several months later, for optimal results.
Is It Safe?
Sweating is our body’s natural cooling mechanism, and you might worry that destroying these sweat glands is dangerous. However, keep in mind that only 2 percent of the body’s 2 million sweat glands are located in the underarms. Eliminating these glands will not hinder your body’s natural ability to cool down. You will continue to sweat normally in other areas of your body.
