Contact the Breslow Center for Plastic Surgery about the cosmetic surgery procedures at our office in northern New Jersey.
The nose heavily influences the overall appearance of the face. Changing the shape and size of your nose may be something you have wanted to do for a long time. Dr. Breslow can help you realize your goals with rhinoplasty surgery at his New Jersey practice.
Surgery of the nose, or rhinoplasty, as performed at our New Jersey practice, can reduce or increase the size of your nose, change the shape of the tip or the bridge, or narrow the span of the nostrils. It can also change the angle between your nose and your upper lip, correct a birth defect or injury, or help to relieve problems with breathing.
Prior to rhinoplasty surgery, Dr. Breslow and the prospective rhinoplasty patient will meet at The Breslow Center For Plastic Surgery in New Jersey to discuss at length the desired objectives of the surgery and how the nose should look in relation to the patient's other facial features. Careful examination as well as photographs of the nose help Dr. Breslow develop an individualized plan for each patient to achieve the desired cosmetic and functional results.
Dr. Breslow can perform the rhinoplasty procedure at his New Jersey plastic surgery facility using either a "closed" or "open" approach, depending upon the complexity of what needs to be done. In utilizing the "closed" approach, the entire surgery is performed from within the nose, making all incisions inside the nostrils. In an "open" approach procedure, Dr. Breslow makes a small incision across the columella, the vertical strip of tissue separating the nostrils, in order to get a better visualization of the nasal architecture.
Regardless of which rhinoplasty approach is used, Dr. Breslow will separate the skin of the nose from the framework of bone and cartilage, and then sculpt the bone and cartilage to the shape and size desired. The skin is then redraped over the new framework and a lightweight splint is usually applied to maintain the new shape of the nose. The splint is usually removed within seven to 10 days following rhinoplasty surgery. Discomfort associated with the procedure is usually minimal and may consist of a slight headache, which is easily controlled by medication. Swelling around the treated area is to be expected and will slowly diminish, but may be present for as long as two or three months, and final results from rhinoplasty may not be apparent for up to one year.
Dr. Breslow often performs rhinoplasty procedures in conjunction with other cosmetic and facial rejuvenation procedures, such as facelift or chin augmentation surgery to achieve a more balanced, aesthetic facial appearance.
