Contact the Breslow Center for Plastic Surgery about the cosmetic surgery procedures at our office in northern New Jersey.
Facial trauma, congenital deformities, disease processes such as Bell's Palsy, and various tumors can cause permanent impairment of the facial nerve and/or facial musculature, resulting in obvious facial asymmetry and functional deficiencies. Various techniques have been developed to correct these deformities and restore life to, or "reanimate", the face.
Traditional facial reanimation techniques, which are performed by Dr. Gary D. Breslow on appropriate patients, involve moving a local muscle to the affected area to give added strength, symmetry, and movement. Newer procedures utilize more sophisticated microvascular reconstructive techniques called "free muscle transfers", which entail moving a muscle from one part of the body to the face for the purpose of reanimation. Dr. Breslow, who spent a year as the Fellow in Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery at New York University Medical Center's prestigious Institute for Reconstructive Plastic Surgery, has extensive training and experience with free muscle transfer techniques for the purpose of facial reanimation. For patients with significant facial asymmetries, the results can be dramatic.
