Contact the Breslow Center for Plastic Surgery about the cosmetic surgery procedures at our office in northern New Jersey.
Having a taut, toned midsection is something that most people dream about. However, factors such as heredity, pregnancy, and weight changes can leave patients with a protruding or a flabby abdomen. Most often the abdominal wall and underlying musculature become stretched and weakened so that even a rigorous exercise routine and a healthful diet do not allow patients to achieve the results they want. Abdominoplasty, or "tummy tuck", as performed at our New Jersey practice by Dr. Breslow, can restore a flat, firm, and shapely body contour.
There are various tummy tuck techniques that can be used to achieve this goal, and these techniques are all offered and performed by Dr. Breslow. The most common procedure performed today by plastic surgeons, including Dr. Breslow, is a complete abdominoplasty. Other techniques, including the modified abdominoplasty and the mini–abdominoplasty, are essentially variations of the complete abdominoplasty technique that entail smaller incisions, less extensive anatomic dissection, and shorter operating times. The abdominoplasty technique ultimately chosen is individualized for each of our New Jersey patients, and depends upon several factors including the patient's anatomy, Dr. Breslow's expertise and experience, and the desires and goals of the tummy tuck patient.
Regardless of which tummy tuck procedure is used, Dr. Breslow removes excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen and tightens the muscles of the abdominal wall. For a complete abdominoplasty, Dr. Breslow makes a "U"–shaped incision just above the pubic area. He makes a second incision to free the navel from the surrounding tissue. The skin is then separated from the abdominal wall up to the lower portion of the ribs and the abdominal wall muscles are stitched closer together to tighten them. Dr. Breslow then brings the skin flap down taut over the abdominal muscles and removes any excess skin. The results are a firmer abdominal wall, narrower waistline, and more aesthetic body contour.
Dr. Breslow often performs other body contouring procedures, such as arm lift and thigh lift, breast augmentation or reduction, breast lift, and liposuction in conjunction with abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) procedures to achieve a more toned, shapely, youthful look.
